LAX Limo Waiting Lot

Looking for the Waiting Lot?

The only time our guests ever get to experience the splendor of the “limo lot” is when they have us pick them up, to pick up one of their guests from LAX. When you arrive, you will see many, many town cars, SUVs, limousines, charter buses and a few other scattered livery vehicles. All these cars are waiting for passengers to arrive from all over the world as well as getting their LAX limousine charter ticket for a whopping $5.00. There are two toll booths that open at 6:30 am to sell the charter tickets. They close at 11:30 pm 7 days a week. Because of the fantastic bureaucracy at LAX, it is illegal to pick up guests without an LAX limousine charter, a transponder and charter ticket. The LAX limousine charter and transponder can be acquired at LAX land-side operations after jumping through a few hoops and paying…and paperworky red-tapey things. This process can be slow and tedious but can be expedited if you know the right people. The odd thing is this, if a flight is landing before 6:30 am or close to it, any pickups are in fact, illegal. Drivers can and have been ticketed for not having a trip charter, even though they could not possible have purchased one.

LAX Limousine Lot

You may be thinking, why not get one before the booths close at 11:55 pm if you have a guest coming in early? Well, you cannot. The tickets are only good for 2 hours and the color changes every day to prevent fraud. So…you are SOL. The good news is, only a few flights come in that early and those are usually from Hawaii. Aloha!. If you are lucky enough to be a guest when a driver gets pulled over by the LAX police for not having a trip ticket, please add an extra 20-40 minutes to your trip.

The lot was inside LAX for many years. We drivers liked it a lot better when it was. For one thing, it was fun. It was right at the beginning of the north runway and the planes would approach directly over your head. It is a truly spectacular site to see a jumbo jet, fifty or sixty feet above your head. The other reason was, it was better for our clients and guests. We were parked less than 2 minutes away from Terminal One curbside and about 5-7 minutes from the Bradley terminal. You can now add about 5 to 10 minutes to your curbside wait time because of the move. Thanks LAX management!

What happens at the lot? Not much. There is a tremendous amount of waiting. . There is a catering truck that comes, I think, every 2 hours and stays for about an hour. Many of the drivers can be found congregating at the tables and Armenian Backgammon while they wait for their guests to arrive.

Other Services at LAX Landside Operations

Continued…

Many travelers of the airport will be using some form of courtesy transportation to their destinations in the city. These services are often offered by local hotels and motels. It is important for these participants to have a relevant permit for the services that they offer. They are provided with off-airport parking facilities. There are approximately 50 different companies authorized for courtesy services.

Utilizing Food and Service Truck Operations

It’s no secret that the culinary side to any airport is big business. Every terminal is home to fast-food establishments and fine dining restaurants. It is important for these locations to get food supplies and resources in order to conduct business. Those utilizing the airport for this business must have a Non-Exclusive Revocable Food-Catering Permit. Vehicles should also have the appropriate decals on them.

Airlines for passenger travel and package logistics are not the only ones conducting transportation services at the airport. Ground transportation to venues, attractions, office buildings, and hotels are important and necessary. They help to prevent traffic and congestion at the airport and surrounding areas. Having access to a variety of different transportation options provides passengers with efficiency.

The various other types of operations at the airport, such as food preparation and service are essential, as well. Vendors, merchandisers, and supply companies all need access to the airport so that they are able to service their customers. Having designated locations for these activities and an organized process is important. LAX Landside Operations monitors this activity and makes certain that it is done properly.
